The summer months from June to August make the best time to visit Serbia for festivities. While the temperature may seem a bit too hot during this time, people from all over the world as well as Serbia come together for many festivals. Popular cities like Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad and Kopaonik are bustling with tourists who have come over for EXIT Festival among many others. Novi Sad's famous music festival is held in June or July and is a much-awaited festival for music lovers all over the world.

Be it its stunning medieval fortresses, historical cities or lip-smacking restaurants, Serbia has plenty of places to offer. Make sure to visit Serbia during the best time to make the most of these places:
Known for its nightlife, Belgrade is much more than its lively party scene. The city is a beautiful amalgamation of the East and the West and offers rich cultural diversity. Visitors can go to the Belgrade Fortress that started building in the 2nd century with an 18th-century clock tower nearby. Other prominent places include the Ruzica Church, St. Michael's Cathedral, Knez Mihailova Street and the National Museum of Serbia.
Also called the Athens of Serbia, Novi Sad has always been a centre of study and culture for centuries. This is evident from its Hapsburg remains and stunning neoclassical buildings scattered throughout its old parts. Main attractions include the Trg Slobode, Dunavski Park, the Danube beach. Nearby is the 18th century Petrovaradin Fortress. The city is also a favourite hotspot among international tourists for the famous EXIT music festival held in the summer. The best time to visit Serbia for attending this festival would be around July or August.
Known for its distinctly heavy Hungarian influence, Subotica is famous for its paprika-filled cuisine as well as its stunning architecture. The town is famous for its secessionist style buildings with distinctive gables, colourful turrets and roof tiles. Some key landmarks include the beautiful City Hall, the clock tower and the nearby Lake Palic which has become a popular lake resort.
Perhaps the most famous Serb in history, not many scientists shaped modern science as Nikola Tesla did with his inventions. Dedicated to his work and life is the Nikola Tesla Museum, a must-visit place if you're aware of his contributions. The museum has over 16,000 original documents with thousands of instruments, photographs and plans by Nikola Tesla. It also houses his ashes.
This one is for all wildlife admirers or visitors who want to go trekking in nature. Tourists can explore the gorges and mountains of Tara National Park, one of the most beautiful and diverse national parks in Serbia. For this, spring is the best time to visit as the weather is not too cold but warm enough to take a trek.
You can also visit this place in summer if the heat is not much of a problem for you. The temperature here ranges from 20 to 25 and offer a pleasant experience.
With hills covered with pine, birch and juniper forests, surrounded by a natural border formed by the river Drina, tourists can go for wildlife safaris or treks and spot mammals and birds of hundreds of species. Some of the most popular animals include roe deer, chamois and bears.
For a long time, Serbia has escaped many travellers' attention because of its tumultuous history. However, what many people don't know is that this place is a multicultural hotspot due to centuries of different monarchies and offers a very unique experience in all aspects. Many tourists have been flocking to Serbia to explore its numerous attractions including natural beauty, ancient monuments, art galleries, museums and of course, amazing food. However, there is a time for everything.
Since Serbia becomes too hot and humid during summers, these months are not recommended if you are planning sightseeing. The best time to visit Serbia for sightseeing is during spring, right around April and May. The temperature will be slightly cooler around 17°C which will make it a pleasant experience while walking and exploring while you sightsee.
Springs are beautiful in Serbia so you can visit the country during the second half of April, May, June. Other than this, you can visit Serbia in September for the best weather for sightseeing. The temperature during these months is between 17 to 22 degrees which will rarely be accompanied by rain or weather changes to affect your outdoor plans.
Serbia is already a pretty affordable country to visit. It is among the few destinations that have a lot of things to offer to backpackers under a budget. However, some people may find it an expensive place as the European country is quickly gaining a lot of popularity.
The most affordable time to visit Serbia would be around April, the month just before Spring begins. The flight tickets can be purchased during an off-season or shoulder season if you’re on a tight budget. This is usually before April or during August to December right before the holiday season.
April in Serbia is pretty cold but manageable if you're keen on exploring amidst the cold and winter.
Other than this, visiting right after the peak tourist season after July to September will also be affordable for those under a budget. The temperatures would have started to dip again and since the EXIT festival would have ended, there would be considerably fewer tourists and demand for accommodation and rentals.
If you’re on a budget, don’t forget to buy suitable international travel insurance for Serbia before your trip. This will help you stick to your budget in case a financial emergency occurs while on your trip abroad.
True travellers know that there’s beauty in every month. Serbia sees extreme cold until February and March, which makes it a bad time to visit especially for the people who can’t stand cold. There is a lot of snow and slush, often accompanied by unexpected rainfall which may dampen things in all sense.
July is the hottest month, January the coldest, so you can avoid visiting in these months unless you are a snow lover. For a snow lover, you can visit the place between December to February.
If trekking and camping are on your agenda, then avoid visiting Serbia from May to June. The country sees a lot of rain during this time and it can be a risky venture. If you do plan to visit, don’t forget to buy travel insurance plan for Serbia as soon as your plans are finalised. It will keep you safe from any untoward expenses.
