It is one of the most important things that should be on your checklist. Try to pack-in maximum coverage to safeguard yourself against various risks while travelling to Thailand. Have a look what all travel insurance Thailand covers:

  • Any kind of accidental bodily injuries
  • Dental treatment required due to an injury
  • Trip delay for more than 12 hours due to medical reasons, airline fault, or natural calamities
  • Loss of checked-in baggage by a common carrier
  • Third-party liability arising due to death, injury or damage caused to a person or property
  • Emergency medical expenses incurred on sudden illness, injury or death during the trip
  • Medical evacuation to India
  • Cost incurred on acquiring a new or duplicate passport in case it is lost during the trip
  • Emergency financial support in case you are mugged during your trip

Currency/Documents

  • Carry at least 3000-5,000 Baht per head for visa and other local expenses
  • Carry 2 passport size photographs as Thailand visa is on arrival for Indians. Your passport size photo should have a light background with 70% of face coverage
  • Also, carry your hotel vouchers along with your flight tickets and original passport. Also, keep your agent’s contact details handy if you have taken a package tour
  • Your passport should be valid for at least the next six months
  • You can easily get an international calling card from the airport or at any of the local shops
  • If you are using your international debit/credit then the bank may charge some extra fee for transactions
  • If you are going for Four Island Tour to James Bond Island, Phi-Phi Island, etc. make sure that you carry 200 – 500 Baht per person for any additional expenses like a compulsory National Park Fee to the Thailand Government
  • It is better to keep a hard copy of all your travel documents and international travel insurance policy in your bag. It will be useful in case you do not have internet access and need to show it to someone

On Arrival in Thailand

  • Once you reach the airport and have booked a tour package, check your travel vouchers the gate number should be mentioned on it
  • For Seat-in coach transfers, it is important to be on time. In case you are late, you will have to wait for the next coach to get the seat. The shuttle usually starts at 8 am in the morning in Bangkok and runs every two hours+ till 6 pm. Whereas in Phuket, it runs from 8 am to 5 pm
  • There is no time slot for private transfers. However, make sure that you are on time. It usually starts from 5 am to 11 pm. So, if you reach before 5 am, you might have to take a cab on your own
  • Your voucher would also include an emergency contact number in case your driver doesn’t arrive for pickup. Always try and opt for an English speaking driver. You can even call your travel agent in case you are not able to contact your cabby
  • Once you reach your hotel, you can verify your travel vouchers with a local guide to avoid any miscommunication, regarding the inclusions and the activities
  • If it your anniversary or you are on your honeymoon then it’s always better to inform your hotel staff. If you are lucky they can offer your complimentary special services such as event passes, candle-light dinner, or room decoration, etc.

Safety Tips

  • If you are a couple or are travelling along then you should refrain from going to isolated beaches to avoid getting mugged
  • Nightlife in Phuket, Krabi, Bangkok, and Pattaya is thrilling. However, it is imperative that you adhere to general safety tips like not getting heavily drunk, or leaving your belongings unattended, etc.
  • Always keep your cash in different places

Food Tips

  • There are endless food choices in Thailand. You can enjoy local cuisine on the streets, which is comparatively cheaper and tastier
  • If you are vegetarian make sure that you mention it to the restaurant while placing the order
  • If you are having street food make sure that the food is prepared in front of you so that you know what they are putting in your food
  • When trying new dishes, it is better to check with the restaurant about the ingredients and let them know about any food allergies clearly beforehand
