9 Tips for a Smooth Journey with Your Baby

Being adequately prepared for any adversity and taking care of your baby’s health are two big things that can make a family trip smooth. For that, you must first buy travel insurance covering all kinds of adversities and ensure a hassle-free journey with your little one. Below are the tips for travelling smoothly with your toddler-

1. Choose a Destination Wisely

When travelling with a baby, avoid choosing extreme destinations where the temperature is too cold as it might become difficult for a baby to breathe due to lack of oxygen. You can head to a beach destination where the climate is not too cold. Stay at a place that has a considerable lawn space for your toddler to stroll. You can also go to toddler-friendly places. For instance, you can go for outdoor activities in Dubai or a trip to Tokyo, where you have many ‘Baby Cafes’ having childproof areas for your babies. Don’t forget to carry overseas travel insurance to cover your baby against unforeseen medical emergencies faced during the trip.

2. Pack Efficiently

Packing becomes challenging when you are travelling with your toddler. You have to keep all the daily essentials, such as diaper bags, breast pumps, water bottles, etc. even if you are going for a weekend only. Also, keep 2-3 baby blankets to cover yourself while breastfeeding. You must carry extra changing clothes, burp cloths, anti-bacterial wipes, hand sanitizer, an extra milk bottle, and at least two bibs when travelling with your baby.

3. Carry Stroller to Move Your Baby Around

If you are travelling with a baby, carrying a stroller can be a big help for you. You can move faster while your baby is taking a nap in the stroller, thus, easing you and your baby’s journey. Besides, when your day involves a lot of walking or shopping, a stroller can be a lifesaver. Most airlines, both domestic and international, also provide gate check-in for strollers. Moreover, it is also a good alternative to carry a baby carrier for a short trip.

4. Do Not Forget to Keep Your Baby’s Medicines

The most important tip for parents is to pack all the essential medicines for the baby. Also, keep your pediatric contact number handy and the last prescription of the baby with you while travelling.

5. Keep the Diaper Bag Handy

Carry diapers, rash creams, wet wipes, and other essential toiletries for your baby in a separate bag. By doing so, you don't need to carry heavy luggage to the public washroom every time your baby needs a diaper change. Also, keep a set of dresses for your baby accessible in the diaper bag.

6. Carry Baby’s Skincare Essentials

Travelling in summer can be irritating for your babies. So, you need to take extra care of your baby’s skin. Using a lot of diapers and wipes tends to form rashes on the skin. Therefore, always carry baby skincare essentials like soft and gentle moisturizing cream, wipes & baby powder to keep your baby fresh and clean all the time. Do not expose your baby to direct sunlight for long hours. It is a better idea to take your kids for outdoor activities in the evening.

7. Stock Up the Baby Food

Another important tip is to stock up the baby food if the baby is dependent upon formula food. If your baby is in the age group of 1-2 years, carry some ready-to-eat food that you can mix with hot water and feed them anytime anywhere. Keep the baby food in a safe leak-proof container that is made from food-grade polypropylene. Buy some fresh fruits when you reach the destination to calm the baby's hunger when you head out for the day-long activities.

8. Maintain Your Baby’s Hygiene

Everything related to your baby's hygiene is crucial for you. Since babies are more prone to getting sick or infected by a disease, you must carry anti-bacterial wipes, hand sanitizer, and your own cutlery for the babies instead of borrowing every time. Also, wash your hands regularly before feeding or changing the baby’s diaper. Maintain good hygiene during the whole trip when you are with a baby.

9. Buy Travel Insurance

In case your baby gets ill during your trip, your overseas travel insurance policy will come to rescue you. With the help of overseas travel insurance, you can give a call at the emergency assistance number of your insurer. Their multilingual experts will guide you to obtain emergency care, medication, or whatever else you need for your baby. Emergency medicare & financial assistance is offered under overseas travel insurance if your little one experiences a medical emergency in any foreign country.

Summing It Up

Travelling with toddlers teaches us to be patient, prepare for the worst, communicate better, and explore the world differently. Above, we have mentioned a couple of tips to make your journey comfortable while travelling with a baby. Apart from these, be flexible with your plans, choose a short-distance destination, buy travel insurance, carry a hot water thermos, and do not forget to carry your baby’s favourite toy while travelling.
