Documents Required for Permanent Registration in Tamil Nadu RTO
As per the motor vehicle rules, it is mandatory for every vehicle in Tamil Nadu to obtain a registration certificate from the concerned Tamil Nadu RTO. Here are the documents required for obatining a permanent RC in Tamil Nadu:

How to Get a Permanent Registration Certificate in Tamil Nadu?
The application for a permanent registration certificate in Tamil Nadu should be made within 7 days of taking vehicle’s delivery. Follow these steps to apply for the same in Tamil Nadu RTO:
Fill up Form 20 and submit it to the nearest RTO
Submit the requiured document to the concerned authority
Submit the required fees and taxes
After the submisssion of all the documents along with fees and taxes, the vehicle is to be produced for inspection after which a registration number will be assigned to the vehicle.
How to Renew Registration Certificate in Tamil Nadu RTO?
A vehicle owner must apply for renewal of RC after the completion of 15 years from original registration date. After these 15 years, the vehicle has to be renewed every five years depending upon its road-worthinesss.

Documents Required for Ownership Transfer in Tamil Nadu
When the vehicle is sold in a normal sale, its ownership is transferred to the name of purchaser. How to Pay Tamil Nadu Road Tax Online?
Paying Tamil Nadu road tax online is a simple and hassle-free process. Follow the steps mentioned below to pay road tax in Tamil Nadu:
From your browser, navigate to the Parivahan Sewa Govt. portal
Now select the "Vehicle Related Services" option from the "Online Services" dropdown
You will now be required to select your state as "Tamil Nadu"
Now enter your vehicle registration number on the next page
Click on the "Proceed" button
Now select the "Pay Vehicle Tax" option
Enter the vehicle's chassis number along with the reg number if required
Enter the OTP received on your mobile number and click on Submit
Update the required details

Fine for Non-Payment of Tamil Nadu Road Tax
As per the motor laws of India, it is mandatory to pay road tax to drive in Tamil Nadu. Failure to do so will result in heavy penalties.
As per the latest guidelines, if the road tax is not paid for more than 45 days, then a 100% penalty of the total outstanding amount may be charged for non-payment.
Endorsement of Hypothecation in Tamil Nadu

Termination of Hypothecation in Tamil Nadu

Hypothecation Charges in Tamil Nadu
The charges to get vehicle hypothecation endorsed or terminated in Tamil Nadu are as follows:
Fees for Endorsement of Hypothecation:
For a wheeler, Rs. 500 and a service charge of Rs. 25
For all other vehicles, the fare is Rs. 800 and the service charge of Rs. 25
For termination of hypothecation, the service charge would be Rs. 25 for all types of vehicles.
Applying for a High-Security Number Plate in Tamil Nadu Online
To provide enhanced security, the Government has made it mandatory for every vehicle owner in Tamil Nadu to get an HSRP number plate affixed. An HSRP plate is fixed with high security features that help in reducing the incidences of theft.
Currently, online application of HSRP in Tamil Nadu is not available. However, a vehicle owner can apply for HSRP offline by visiting the nearest RTO.
Challan for Driving Without Car Insurance in Tamil Nadu
As per the motor laws of India, it is illegal to drive on the roads of Tamil Nadu without a valid car insurance policy. If caught driving without one, you may have to face legal consequences along with heavy traffic fines. The fine for driving without insurance in Tamil Nadu is:
Rs. 2,000 for the first offence
Rs 4,000 for the second or subsequent offence
