      As per the motor vehicle rules, it is mandatory for every vehicle in Tamil Nadu to obtain a registration certificate from the concerned Tamil Nadu RTO. Here are the documents required for obatining a permanent RC in Tamil Nadu:

      A vehicle owner must apply for renewal of RC after the completion of 15 years from original registration date. After these 15 years, the vehicle has to be renewed every five years depending upon its road-worthinesss.

      Documents Required for Ownership Transfer in Tamil Nadu

      When the vehicle is sold in a normal sale, its ownership is transferred to the name of purchaser. Moreover, it is also important to transfer the ownership of the vehicle to the new buyer so thatso that the previous owner shall not be held liable for liable for any legal or financial troubles related to the vehicle.

      Fine for Non-Payment of Tamil Nadu Road Tax

      As per the motor laws of India, it is mandatory to pay road tax to drive in Tamil Nadu. Failure to do so will result in heavy penalties.

      Hypothecation Charges in Tamil Nadu

      The charges to get vehicle hypothecation endorsed or terminated in Tamil Nadu are as follows:

      Fees for Endorsement of Hypothecation:

      For a wheeler, Rs. 500 and a service charge of Rs. 25

      For all other vehicles, the fare is Rs. 800 and the service charge of Rs. 25

      For termination of hypothecation, the service charge would be Rs. 25 for all types of vehicles.

      Applying for a High-Security Number Plate in Tamil Nadu Online

      To provide enhanced security, the Government has made it mandatory for every vehicle owner in Tamil Nadu to get an HSRP number plate affixed. An HSRP plate is fixed with high security features that help in reducing the incidences of theft.
      Currently, online application of HSRP in Tamil Nadu is not available. However, a vehicle owner can apply for HSRP offline by visiting the nearest RTO.
