You will need a sheet of paper-preferably A4 or square in shape, some markers or paints for decoration, glue or sticky tape, and optionally a small piece of wood for a more robust handle. By allowing the child to choose material and color used, their sense of choice is encouraged, which is part of positive parenting.
This is now the most creative step! Using markers, paints, or crayons, decorate the paper on both sides. You could do patterns, shapes, or just a splash of color-whatever feels personal. When the paper is dry, start folding it in an accordion fashion, with each fold about 1-2 cm wide. Remember to keep the size of the folds roughly the same so that the fan opens nicely.
