With COVID cases declining, the travel restrictions are easing out and tourist destinations are seeing regular footfall once again. Considering the kind of health scare that we have just witnessed, it’s important to have travel insurance in place before you pack your bags. Travel insurance protects you against the costs and losses associated with travelling, like the loss of passport and personal belongings, loss of checked baggage, etc. Having these risks covered adds an extra layer of financial security. For instance, if your flight is cancelled for any reason (as per the coverage terms and restrictions), you will be compensated up to a certain limit if you have travel insurance. These expenses, otherwise, could be a financial burden. In addition to that, COVID-19 has also amplified the importance of having travel insurance. As you might face travel restrictions or catch Covid while traveling and all of this can lead to a larger expense. Hence, it has become all the more necessary now to have a travel insurance plan by your side.
However, while choosing a travel insurance, one needs to make sure to have certain must-have features, for instance - coverage for medical emergencies. If you become ill or injured while travelling, your insurance will cover the cost of your hospitalisation. Given the excessive cost of medical treatment abroad, this will save you a huge amount of money. Other than that, a cover for baggage and other belongings, under which if your luggage is stolen, lost, or misplaced by the airline after you check in, your insurance policy will compensate you for the loss. Yet another important feature is cover against personal accident, which ensures that your policy covers you against accidental death and injuries. In this case, the policy pays you a lump-sum benefit. And lastly, coverage for expenses related to trip delays and cancellations.
Further, one must take note of the exclusions as well. For instance, your travel plan will only cover for hospitalization in case of an emergency situation. If you face a life-threatening situation, only in that case one will be provided hospitalization, and not for planned procedures. Another exclusion is, one should have a valid reason in case of a trip cancellation like a health condition or travel restriction. Otherwise, the travel insurance won’t cover the charges.
