Indore Traffic Police Challan & Traffic Fines

Being the largest and most populous city in Madhya Pradesh, Indore faces heavy traffic congestions and traffic rules violations. To control this, the Indore Traffic Police has laid down certain traffic rules that every vehicle owner in Indore should follow to avoid being fined. Traffic Rules in Indore

Indore is also one of the commercial hubs of India, which attracts a large population from across the country. Moreover, due to less knowledge of driving etiquette, people do not follow traffic rules properly in the city. Therefore, the city traffic police are highly vigilant when it comes to tackling traffic violations in Indore.

With the increasing traffic rules violations and road accidents all over the country, the Indian Government amended the Motor Vehicles Act in 2019, which came into effect on September 1, 2019. This amended Act came with harsher traffic violation challans. Any vehicle owner across the country caught violating the traffic rules is subject to hefty traffic fines as stated in the Act.

However, not all states implemented these amended traffic fines, including Madhya Pradesh. The Madhya Pradesh Government considered these fines as steep and harsh for the public and thus, did not implement them in the state.

Documents Required to Avoid Indore Traffic Challans

To avoid a traffic challan in Indore, every car owner is required to keep certain mandatory documents while driving. These are:

      • Registration Certificate (RC) of vehicle
      • Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate
      • Driving License (DL)
      • Car insurance policy papers

If a car driver is caught without any of these documents when asked by the traffic police officer, he/she may have to pay a heavy traffic challan to the Indore Traffic Police.

      Indore Traffic Challan List

Since Madhya Pradesh did not implement the amended motor laws of 2019, the challan rates remained fixed as per the old motor laws. Here is a list of traffic challan rates in Indore for different traffic rules violations:

Indore Traffic Rules Violation Indore Traffic Fines
(As per Motor Vehicles Act, 1988)

Driving when mentally or physically unfit Rs. 200 for the first offence
Rs. 500 for the subsequent offence
Driving without a car insurance Rs. 1,000 or 3 months imprisonment or both
Using a mobile phone while driving Rs. 100 for the first offence
Rs. 300 for the subsequent offence

      Rs. 300 for subsequent offences
Driving a car without displaying number plates Rs. 100 for the first offence
Rs. 300 for the subsequent offence

If any car driver in Indore is caught violating the above-mentioned traffic rules, then he/she may have to pay a traffic challan. If the violator is caught on the CCTV cameras, then he/she may receive an e-challan, which can be paid online or offline.
