      Fine For Jumping Red Light Signal

      The Government of India made an amendment to the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The amended traffic rules were implemented in the country from September 1, 2019. The traffic challan rates for jumping red light were increased so that the vehicle owners think before jumping the red light. As it was Rs. 100-300 before the amendment but post amendment the traffic challan rates for jumping red light was increased to Rs. 1000-5000 that varies on different states.

      Challan For Jumping Red Light

      Jumping a red light in the city is a serious offense because it can lead to accidents that can severely injure the violator as well as an innocent third person. It does not matter how late you are for your office or any other place, never jump the red light.

      If the traffic police catch you jumping the red light then they will stop you and ask you for your necessary documents. They will ask you for your driving license, insurance, registration certificate and pollution under control certificate. Then they will issue the challan against you either online or offline.

      Thanks to digitization and advanced technology, the traffic signals are equipped with cameras that are monitored by the traffic police from the traffic control room. If the camera catches you jumping the red light then you will get issued with an e-challan and receive it on your registered mobile number.

      How To Pay Traffic Signal Jump Challan Online?

      It is mandatory to follow the traffic rules to avoid getting fined in the country. However, if a traffic challan is issued against you then you can either pay for it offline or online. Remember that the challan issued online must be paid within 60 days or it will be directed to the court after that period. So let us tell you the step-by-step procedure to pay for the traffic challan online.

      • Visit the official website of your state’s RTO
      • Now you will see the option of Challan Payment. Click on it
      • Then you will be required to enter the challan number and vehicle registration number
      • Then you will see a tab “Pay Now”
      • Click on Pay Now and you will be directed to the payment gateway page
      • There you will see the options available for you to make the payment
      • The options to make your payment will be Debit/credit card, net banking and other digital payment
      • Then you will get a confirmation message on your registered mobile number

      You can also pay for the challan offline. Follow the steps below:

      • Go to the nearby traffic police station
      • Go to the payment department
      • Tell the authorized personnel your Challan number
      • Then pay the amount in cash or by card or any other medium of payment available
      • You will get a receipt and it is done.

      Avoid Jumping Red Light, How?

      As per the traffic rules, every driver/rider should not jump the red light. In order to not jump the red light, be attentive and look at the signal and look out for other vehicles moving at the roundabout. You can follow the important points mentioned below to avoid jumping red and getting fined.

      • You can spot a signal light from far away as it is located at a good height. Make sure that you have a look at it.
      • While approaching the signal make sure that you apply the brakes from a good distance. Get service done regularly to make sure the brakes work fine.
      • Never speed up your vehicle while approaching the signal. You can collapse with other standing vehicles
      • When you take a U-turn, use your indicator and look out for any other vehicle approaching on that road.

      Fine For Jumping Red Light In Different States

      The Government of India implemented the amended bill on September 1, 2019. The traffic signal jump fine was increased to Rs. 1000 that was Rs. 1000 before. Also, the cameras installed on the signals can easily catch you for jumping red light and you will get an e-challan on your registered mobile number.

      However, some of the states made some changes to the amended Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. As an initiative to decrease road accidents post jumping red light. The traffic police can also revoke your DL for 3 months. Then after three months, you will have to go to the court and pay the fine there and get your license back. The judge can also increase the penalty.
