What is the Tamil Nadu Pension Scheme?
Tamil Nadu Pension Scheme has different types and helps people who have no other source of income or are economically backward.
This pension provides some amount to the person as an income and provides social security for people who are alone or disabled or have no other source of income. Old people who don't have a caretaker, disabled individuals, and widows are eligible for this pension.Â

Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension
Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension is provided for senior citizens in Tamil Nadu who have no source of income and are above the age of 60.   Â
Eligibility
- The person must be above 60 years of age
- Must be destitute
- Must belong to a family that falls below the poverty line
- Individuals who have no relatives above the age of 18
- Individuals whose sons or daughters refused to provide any financial help

- The pension amount provided under this plan is Rs. 1,000/- per month.
- This pension scheme can provide an amount that acts as an income replacement.

Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension
Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension is provided for women who got married when they were 18 years of age and above and then got into widowhood above 30 years of age.
Eligibility
- Must be a widow of 40 years and above
- Should be Destitute
- Should belong to a family that falls below the poverty line
- Widows with no other source of income
- Widows whose all assets must be below Rs 50,000

Indira Gandhi National Disabled Pension
Indira Gandhi National Disabled Pension is provided for disabled people in Tamil Nadu who have attained 80% disability.
Eligibility
- The person must be 18 years of age and above
- Must be destitute
- Should belong to a family that falls below the poverty line
- The Disability Level of the pensioner must be 80% and above
- Should not beg for a living
- A disabled person with no one to take care of them and with no income is also eligible
Features and Benefits
- The pension amount provided under this plan is Rs. 1,000/- per month.
- This pension scheme can cover the medical expenses of the disabled person.

Destitute Widow Pension Scheme
The Destitute Widow Pension Scheme is provided for a woman who attained widowhood above 18 years of age.
Eligibility
- The person must be 18 years and above when they lost their spouse and must be married when they are 18 and above
- Should be destitute
- A widow with no source of income and all assets of theirs falls below Rs. 50,000/- are eligible
- Widows with no other relatives above the age of 18 years of age are eligible

- The pension amount provided under this plan is Rs. 1,000/- per month.

Destitute Differently able Pension Scheme
Destitute differently able pension scheme is provided for disabled people who have attained 40% of disability.
Eligibility
- Disabled people who are 18 years and above

- Disability Level has to be 40% and above
- A disabled person with no other source of income and has assets that are less than or equal to Rs. 50,000
Features and Benefits
- The pension amount provided under this plan is Rs. 1,000/- per month.

Destitute / Deserted Wives Pension Scheme
Destitute / Deserted Wives Pension Scheme is provided for women whose spouses deserted without any care or protection for 5 years and above.
Eligibility
- Wives who are legally divorced or deserted by their spouses for 5 years.
- Destitute Wives with no other source of income and has assets less than or equal to Rs. 50,000/- are eligible.
- Must not beg for a living.
- Must be 30 years of age and above.

Unmarried Poor Women PensionÂ
Unmarried Poor Women Pension is provided for women who are above the age of 50 years and have not yet got married with no other source of income.

- Should be destitute
- Must not have any source of income
- Must not own any assets above Rs. 50,000

Sri Lankan Refugees Destitute / Deserted Wives Pension
Sri Lankan Refugee wife (woman) whose husband deserted her for more than a period of 5 years is eligible.
Eligibility
- Must be 30 years of age and above
- Must be destitute
- Must have been legally divorced by their husband or deserted by their spouse for 5 years are eligible
- Should not beg for a living
- Pensioners must not have any source of income.
- All assets owned by the woman must fall less than or equal to Rs. 50,000/- are eligible.

Sri Lankan Refugees Destitute Widow Pension
Sri Lankan Refugees Widows who are above 18 years of age when they attained widowhood are eligible.

- Must be destitute
- The eligibility age for getting this pension is 18 years and above.
- Must have attained widowhood or married when 18 years old
- Should have no source of income and doesn’t have assets worth above Rs. 50,000

This pension scheme is provided for a Sri Lankan Refugee who is also a differently-abled person.
