LIC has come up with new and updated insurance products that address the varying needs of its customers. It has also introduced several digital initiatives to make its life insurance schemes more accessible to the public. Now, LIC’s Certificate of Existence can also be submitted online through its newly introduced app, called the Jeevan Saakshya. Further, LIC's online portal features several tools that make the process of purchase, claims, renewal, etc., faster and more convenient.
Read moreIn the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, LIC has made it easier for pensioners to submit the Certificate of Existence instead of visiting a branch office. Pensioners can now submit a digital Life Certificate or Certificate of Existence through LIC’s Jeevan Saakshya app. LIC has also started accepting submissions through the email facility and video call process. However, if you are not comfortable with these online means, the offline mode of submission through branch visits is still available.
Let’s find out how to fill the LIC Certificate of Existence or the Life Certificate both online and offline.
Also known as the Life Certificate, or the Jeevan Praman Patra, LIC's Certificate of Existence is the proof of life of the pensioner to continue receiving the benefits of her/his annuities. Every pensioner must get this form filled and attested periodically by a competent authority depending on her/his pension option.
The plan options, along with details of LIC’s Certificate of Existence submission, are highlighted below:
Annuity for Life with Return of Capital (ROC): LIC Certificate of Existence has to be submitted once in 5 years.
Annuity for Life: LIC Certificate of Existence has to be submitted every year.
Annuity for 5 Years Guaranteed and Life Thereafter: LIC Certificate of Existence has to be submitted after 5 years and then every year subsequently.
Annuity for 10 Years Guaranteed and Life Thereafter: LIC Certificate of Existence has to be submitted after 10 years and then every year subsequently.
Annuity for 15 Years Guaranteed and Life Thereafter: LIC Certificate of Existence has to be submitted after 15 years and then every year subsequently.
Annuity for 20 Years Guaranteed and Life Thereafter: LIC Certificate of Existence has to be submitted after 20 years and then every year subsequently.
Annuity for Lifetime with a Facility of Payment of 100 % Annuity to the Spouse On the Annuitant’s Death: LIC Certificate of Existence has to be submitted every year.
Annuity for Lifetime with a Facility of Payment of 100 % Annuity to the Spouse Upon Annuitant’s Death with Return of Capital (ROC) Purchase Price Upon Last Annuitant’s Death: LIC Certificate of Existence has to be submitted once in 5 years.
Please note that the certificate of existence has to be attested by a certifying authority such as a Gazetted Officer, a Class I Officer of LIC, a registered medical practitioner, or an officer of the bank where the pensioner has an account, among others.
The LIC Life Certificate has to be duly filled and certified by designated authorities and subsequently signed by the pensioner, as per the timelines discussed above. This certificate is important to keep your pension plan active and to continue receiving the benefits as stated in the policy bond.
