Burglary and Housebreaking:
- The company will pay an amount of Rs 2 lakhs under the plan for the loss or damage caused to the items in the house If any theft, burglary, larceny or housebreaking occurs.
- Loss and damage to jewellery like gold, silver, precious metals and stones and other valuable items due to theft, burglary, larceny or housebreaking will be equal to the chosen sum insured for the Fire and Allied Peril plan.
Domestic, Mechanical and Electrical Appliances. :
Under this plan, the Company will indemnify the insured against unanticipated and unexpected physical damage caused solely due to mechanical and/or electrical breakdown of domestic electrical and mechanical appliances, apparatus or gadgets. Provided the liability of the company will not exceed the sum insured in respect of any one item less than one policy period.
- Under this plan, the coverage is for domestic mechanical and electrical appliances (upto 10 years old) against any mechanical and electrical breakdown.
- The choice of items can be done can be done under the following categories:
- Domestic electrical and mechanical appliances.
- Washing Machine.
- Microwave.
- Air Conditioner.
- Refrigerator.
- Vacuum Cleaner.
- Domestic Electronic appliances.
- DVD Player.

- Personal Computer.
- One can choose the coverage of electronic items like music systems, computers or any other domestic electronic appliances against fire and allied perils, burglary, breakdown etc. However, iPods, laptops, tablets and mobile phones are not covered under the plan.
- If one has more than one television systems in the house, then the Sum Insured is calculated on the total value. The following are considered for the cover:

The Company will indemnify the damage or loss caused to the Television sets under the following circumstances:
- Fire, lightening, explosion of gas in domestic appliances.
- Abundant flow and thereafter bursting of water reservoirs, equipment and its pipes
- Earthquake including shock and fire.
- Aircraft or articles dropped.
- Riot, strikes and malevolent Damage.
- Typhoon, Tempest, Tornado, Hurricane, storm, flood and Inundation.
- Burglary, theft or housebreaking.
- Mechanical or electrical breakdowns.
Personal Accident
- Under this plan, one may receive the compensation for accidental death or permanent total disablement caused due to an accident. One can cover the family members aged between 5 years to 70 years.
- The following coverages will apply to the family members under the plan:
- Maximum Sum Insured for self and /or spouse, if earning can be the Sum Insured opted for under “Fire and Allied Peril-Other Content” for each person.
- Under this plan, the Sum Insured for a non-earning spouse will be 50% of the earning member or Rs 1 lakh, whichever is less.
- Children aged between 5 years to 25 years will have a Sum Insured of 25% of the earning member or Rs 50000 per child, whichever is less.
Exclusions under Reliance Home Insurance
The plan does not cover the loss of cash or damage to the insured property due to the below mentioned reasons:
- Intentional or willful destruction of the property.
- Loss and damage caused due to war.
- Loss / damage caused due to wear and tear.
- Volcanic upsurge or other seizure of nature.
- Effluence and contamination damage.
- Change of temperature which results in damage of stocks.
- If the home is unoccupied for more than 30 days without any prior intimation to the company, the same will not be covered under the plan.
- Consequential effects of the perils which are specified.
- Loss of Art Work – paintings, antiques, or artwork unless they are separately covered.
- Seepage Losses: Damage to the house because of seepage.
- Mechanical and Electrical Background: Breakdown of mechanical and electrical appliances unless it is separately covered.
- Damage caused because of pollution.
- Nuclear war
- Electronic appliances loss due to overuse or electrical fluctuation.
- Unmaintained property: If you do not maintain your property and then it gets damaged. In this case, the policy will not cover the damages.
- Self-Damage to Property: Any intentional losses to the property such as if the policyholder damages his/her property by him/herself, the damages will not be covered by the insurer.
- Impact of Government: Property loss as per the order of any court or government property.
- Pre-existing Losses/ Damages: Any pre-existing damage such as any wear and tear or any defects.
- Home Business: If you have a small business that you are running in your home, then its equipment is as well not covered under a home insurance policy.
- Damage Due to Rodent: Your home or property can get damaged because of rodents and a standard home insurance policy like Reliance Home Insurance does not provide coverage for the same.
Nomination:
Nomination is required under this plan. Personal Accident Plan allows an individual and his family to be covered under one single plan. In such a scenario, a nominee has to be appointed. The nominee will be the beneficiary if the policyholder, suffer from a sudden death or permanent disablement.
Important Points in Reliance Home Insurance Plan
Some Important points to note under Householder’s Package Policy or Plan. These are as follows:
- If the property is in joint name, the plan can be taken in either name. However, NOC ( No Objection Certificate) needs to be obtained from the co-owner during claims.
- The Property or the Building value is calculated on the reinstatement basis which is its reconstruction value and not the market value. The following points are to be considered for calculating the Sum Insured:
- The built up area of the house needs to be multiplied with the current construction cost per square foot.
- The cost of land to be excluded from the calculation of the Sum Insured.
- The cost of construction of any compound wall is to be taken into consideration.
An example can be taken: Mr Rudra has a house with built up area of 1500 sq feet and the cost of current construction rate is Rs 1000 per square feet, then the sum insured will be Rs 1500000/-.
- The Property or the Building value is calculated on the reinstatement basis which is its reconstruction value and not the market value. The following points are to be considered for calculating the Sum Insured:
- If the house has been rented, the tenants also can insure the contents of the home which belongs to them. However, the plan will not cover the building against any loss as tenants are not the legal owners of the property or due to tenant’s negligence.
- In case the property is sold, the insurable interest ceases and the new owner will have to take fresh home insurance plans.
- Partial insurance is not allowed under the plan.
- One can do himself the valuation of the property and its contents while purchasing the plan online.

- The claim needs to be registered or intimated at the toll free number of the insurance company within 24 hours of the accident.
