      What is IVF?

It involves fertilizing the mature eggs of a woman by the sperms of a man in a laboratory dish if it does not happen naturally. The fertilized eggs or embryos are then placed in the woman's uterus for the baby to develop.

IVF is the most effective type of infertility treatment, with a success rate of 60-70%. It involves five basic steps – Stimulation or super ovulation, Egg retrieval, Insemination & fertilization, Embryo culture and Embryo transfer. While IVF treatment can be done using a couple's own eggs and sperms, it is also possible using a donor's eggs, sperms or embryo.

      When is IVF Treatment Required?

IVF treatment is carried out to resolve infertility issues resulting from the following:

      • Advanced maternal age of women
      • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
      • Damaged or blocked fallopian tube
      • Ovulation disorders
      • Uterine fibroids
      • Endometriosis
      • Issues with sperms, such as decreased sperm count
      • Previous surgery to prevent pregnancy
      • Genetic disorder
      • Cancer treatment like chemotherapy or radiation
      • Unexplained infertility

Benefits of Buying Health Insurance for IVF Treatment

Take a look at the benefits of buying health insurance that covers IVF treatment:

      1. Expensive Cost of IVF Treatment

IVF treatment is an expensive procedure. The average cost of IVF treatment in India ranges from ₹70,000 to ₹3,00,000 per cycle, depending on the city and the hospital. Moreover, multiple cycles may be required for a successful pregnancy, which makes it difficult to afford for many couples. Fortunately, IVF medical insurance plans make it possible for couples to afford IVF treatments and become parents.

      2. Decline in Fertility Rate

The fertility rate has been falling rapidly in India. As per the United Nations, India's fertility rate has dropped from 6.2 in 1950 to 2 children per woman in 2024. Stress, poor lifestyle, delayed marriages & family planning and genetic factors are the main reasons behind this drop in fertility rate. As a result, more and more couples are turning towards IVF for help. Health insurance that covers infertility treatments pays for the high cost of IVF, supporting couples financially in realising their dreams of having a baby.

      3. High Demand for IVF Treatment

The demand for IVF treatments has increased massively over the last decade. As per reports, around 2-2.5 lakh IVF cycles are conducted in India every year, with a projected increase to 5-6 lakh IVF cycles by 2030. The dipping fertility rate in the country is majorly responsible for this high demand for IVF. With medical insurance that covers IVF treatment, couples can easily opt for this assisted reproductive treatment without worrying about how to pay the bills.
