      What is Dengue?

Dengue is a vector-borne disease that causes high fever and flu-like symptoms. It is a viral infection that spread from the bite of an Aedes mosquito carrying the dengue virus (or DENV). Most people recover from dengue fever in a couple of weeks with mild symptoms. However, if the blood platelet count of the patient drops below normal, the disease can be life-threatening.

      Symptoms of Dengue Fever

There are several symptoms that can indicate if a person is suffering from dengue fever. Usually, the incubation period ranges from 4 to 7 days, but in some cases, it may go up to 14 days. Given below are the common symptoms of dengue fever:

      • Severe headache
      • High fever
      • Eye pain
      • Nausea
      • Joint pain or muscle pain
      • Vomiting
      • Fatigue
      • Body rash
      • Bleed of mouth, nose or gums
      • Swollen glands

Severe cases of dengue may require hospitalization, which may lead to a major financial burden. Fortunately, all health insurance companies in India offer dengue insurance for people infected with dengue virus.

Benefits of Buying Dengue Health Insurance in India

Take a look at the key benefits of buying a health insurance policy for dengue:

      1. High Incidence of Dengue

Dengue fever is a menace that Indians face every year, especially during the monsoon. Nonstop rains lead to waterlogging, which provides the ideal breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes. As per the National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control, about 289,235 cases of dengue were reported in India in 2023. Therefore, people staying in a hotspot for dengue fever are recommended to buy a dengue health insurance policy in India to afford any medical expenses arising out of the treatment of this viral disease.

      2. Expensive Hospitalization

People suffering from dengue are advised hospitalization if their platelet levels drop below normal. In fact, they may even be moved to an ICU if the platelet level is alarmingly low. In such circumstances, the policyholder may end up paying an exorbitant hospital bill. However, people with a dengue insurance policy can focus solely on recovery, as their insurer will take care of their medical bills.
