      What is Aplastic Anaemia?

Aplastic anaemia is a critical medical condition that can develop at any age. This disease disrupts the production of new blood cells in the body. The human body produces three types of blood cells i.e. platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells. Wherein, a low blood platelet count in the body increases the risk of bleeding and infections. Aplastic anaemia can be both mild and severe, and in some cases, it can also be fatal.

      Symptoms of Aplastic Anemia

When present, the signs and symptoms of Aplastic Anemia can include:

      • Irregular or rapid heart rate
      • Shortness of breath
      • Fatigue
      • Pale skin
      • Prolonged or frequent infections
      • Bruising that is unexplained
      • Bleeding gums or nosebleeds
      • Prolonged bleeding from cuts

      Causes of Aplastic Anemia

Stem cells are present in the bone marrow and help in producing red blood cells. It is a lifestyle disease that occurs when there is damage caused to the stem cells in the body. It is an autoimmune disorder that attacks the body’s immune system. It attacks healthy cells like stem cells in the bone marrow.

In some cases, it occurred as a side effect of the cancer treatment including chemotherapy and radiation. Moreover, some of the other causes of aplastic anemia are heredity, medications, exposure to poisonous chemicals or ionizing radiations, and viral infections, etc. In a majority of patients suffering from this disease, a lot of unknown factors result in this health condition.

Procedure for Availing Health Insurance for Anaemia Patient

Before providing health cover to an anaemic patient, the insurer may ask the individual for his/her medical history. The insurer might require you to show your medical history, including prescriptions, and dosages. Some insurers also ask for the details of doctors and diagnostic facility visit apart from a detailed form about the individual's height, weight, travel frequency, etc.

As aplastic anaemia develops as a direct consequence of bone marrow damage which can be caused by a variety of conditions, including Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Hepatitis, HIV, exposure to toxic chemicals, or ionizing radiation.

Once the diagnostic lab completes the study, it will send its results to the underwriter at the insurance company. The insurer will compare the findings and match it with their guidelines. The premium for applicants with pre-existing conditions is always higher. Sometimes the insurer may need a more detailed medical history, and they would ask you to fill the form with medical details and the ongoing treatment.

      Risk Assessment for Anemia Patients

For aplastic anaemia, the guarantors will analyze the risk factor for an applicant. If you do not have any other health issue other than the aplastic anaemia, then the insurer would issue a health insurance policy in your name.

On the contrary if the individual’s health is not in a good condition, then the insurer may reject the application. Because a person with existing illnesses can become a liability for the insurance company in the future. It is crucial to find the right insurer as well as read the “fine print” of the documents to avail a smooth claim in the future.

      To Conclude

Amid the rising healthcare costs, it is beneficial to have a health insurance place. While buying insurance for an anemic patient might be difficult, but it is quite beneficial to have yourself covered adequately.

With the advancement in medical science and the growing medicinal industry, healthcare has become expensive globally. And the treatment of terminal illness and major diseases like aplastic anemia can drain anyone’s savings. In such a situation, a health insurance policy comes handy. It saves people, especially in the middle-income group from losing all the bank balance to hospital bills.
