Kotak Equity Opportunities Fund

The Kotak Equity Opportunities Fund, by its very nomenclature, suggests an equity scheme from Kotak Mutual Fund. The open-ended scheme picks predominantly large and mid-cap stocks for a steady long-term capital appreciation.  The Fund Managers strategize investment in a combination of large and mid-cap stocks across sectors based on the potential of the sector companies and their performance. The approach adopted for stock selection is bottom-up, looking for investment opportunities in prudent portfolio construction to insulate from the market trends with lower volatility.

Benefits of Kotak Equity Opportunities Fund

The Kotak Equity Opportunities Fund is promoted by Kotak Mutual Fund, endowing it with process-backed investments, helping the investor achieve long-term financial goals. Some of the critical benefits accrued for investing in the Fund are:

  1. Convenience

The investor has an eclectic choice to purchase units in the Kotak Opportunities Fund from the AMC or a robust distributor network. Additionally, the investor can look for the Growth or IDCW options matching individual preferences. The initial investment amounts are as low as Rs.5000 for a lump sum and Rs.1000 for the SIP facility.

  2. Transparency

Disclosure of the NAV daily is stipulated by SEBI. Accordingly, the Kotak AMC computes the NAV daily at the end of the business day and puts it in the public domain in their official portal and AMFI for good measure. Any deviation from the described norm invites explanations.

  3. Liquidity

The Kotak Opportunities Fund is an open-ended scheme allowing redemption and switching facility every business day based on the applicable NAV. As per SBI guidelines, the AM must dispatch the redemption proceeds within ten days or pay an interest of 15% per annum for the delayed period.

  4. Tax Impact

The tax impact in the Kotak Opportunities Fund is determined by the investor’s plan choice. The tax treatment is different for the Growth and IDCW options:

    • Capital Gains: In the Growth option, the shareable revenue is reinvested. The earnings are available only when redeemed.
      1. Units redeemed after one year from the purchase date

        • Up to Rs.1 Lac in a financial year: Nil
        • Over Rs.1 lac in a financial year: 10%.
      2. Units redeemed within one year from the purchase date

        • The entire amount received: 15%
    • Dividend: The amount is added to the investor’s gross income for income tax at the applicable slab rate. TDS at 10% is applied to a Dividend above Rs.5000 before disbursal.
