is sleep apnea covered in health insurance , can a policy application be declined due to sleep apnea. if so then why do the insurance company do not put a disclaimer like they do in case of suicide, hiv/aids and likewise
Hello Sujaya, thanks for writing in. Yes, sleep apnea can be covered under health insurance policies. However, the coverage may vary depending on the type of policy and the severity of the condition. In some cases, a policy application may be declined due to sleep apnea if it is considered a pre-existing condition. Insurance companies do not put a disclaimer for sleep apnea like they do for suicide or HIV/AIDS because it is not considered a life-threatening condition. However, it is always advisable to disclose any pre-existing conditions while applying for a policy to avoid any future claim rejection.
While some features may differ from plan to plan, some key terms and conditions for nearly all comprehensive health policies include:
1. All pre-existing diseases have to be declared at the time of submitting the proposal form to avoid rejection of claims in the future
2. The insurer may require you to go through tele- or physical medical tests based on your age and health condition
3. Across all health insurance policies, you must serve specific waiting periods (when you cannot claim treatment for specified diseases). The waiting periods may differ slightly across plans.
