Health insurance portability and accountability act HIPAA to the information
Hi Pramod, thanks for writing in. It would be helpful if you could elaborate on your question here to allows us to assist you in the best possible way. If you are interested in understanding if there is an act similar to US's Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in India, the answer currently is no. Presently, a patient’s personal information, including health information, is treated as sensitive personal data or information (SPDI) under the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules 2011 and is expected to be protected more than personal data. The government has also released a draft Health Data Management Policy, with the aim of protecting health data of Indian citizens.
There are two proposed legislations as well that still need to be passed to become laws/ acts:
1. The PDP (Personal Data Protection) Bill
2. DISHA (Digital Information Security in Healthcare Act), esp. for sharing of healthcare data
Hope this helps.
